Established in 1870, Saint Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church is a community of Catholic Christian believers in communion with the Bishop of Austin.
Saint Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church is the "Mother Church" of Catholicism in the Waco area and a parish with a rich history and tradition of prayer, worship and service in Waco, Texas. In addition to daily masses, parishioners participate in numerous activities that promote spiritual growth and charitable and social opportunities.
If you are seeking a parish in which to learn, to pray, to gather in fellowship and to serve each other and our community - Welcome!
Saint Mary's exists to give glory to God our Father, to grow in the knowledge of his love for us in Jesus Christ and to share that love in our community by living His Gospel.
Saint Mary's has provided a faithful witness to the Catholic faith in the city of Waco and in McLennan County for over 140 years. Please check out the links to the left as well as the rest of our website.
Through baptism we are called to holiness of life, sharing the benefits and responsibilities of our salvation. Guided by the Holy Spirit, we have given witness to our faith by our worship, the formation of our members and our outreach to our community.
Our doors are open to you. We are grateful God has brought you to us and we welcome you into our community of faith.
We want to serve you. We hope you will favor our parish with your prayers, your presence, your talents and your financial assistance according to your means.
The parish complex covers more than one square block and includes the church, rectory, parish hall, Assumption House and adjacent parking lots.
Cards are provided in church pews offering people an opportunity to obtain more information about the parish, join the parish, or say that they are just visiting.
Or simply call the parish office at (254) 753-0146 with your questions.
The attention of our community and our world is still focused on the COVID-19 pandemic. With the permission of our Bishop, public Masses at Saint Mary's have resumed. Scheduled confessions have also resumed. And the parish office and gift shop is now open for normal business hours, Monday thru Friday, 9 AM to 12 Noon and 1:30 PM to 4 PM.
We continue to live stream Sunday Mass at 8 AM and weekday Masses on Wednesday and Friday at 5:15 PM. These Masses can be viewed on our parish Facebook page.
On a spiritual level, I would ask you to join me in prayer for those who are sick, those who care for them, and those who are in distress during this time. Let us entrust ourselves to God who will never leave us to face our challenges alone.
Spiritual resources for this trying time can be found on our COVID-19 Spiritual Resources page. Up-to-date information on the coronavirus pandemic can still be found on the COVID-19 Updates & Prevention page.
You can also call the parish office at (254) 753-0146 with any questions you may have.
Concerning your financial support of Saint Mary's, I would ask you, if you haven't done so already, to please consider signing up for on line giving. Your gifts help us minister even when we can’t gather together for Holy Mass and the sacraments. Here is a link where you can participate in online giving.
Thank you for your kind attention to these important measures and thank you for your generous support of St. Mary’s.
Let us continue to pray that Our Lady and Saint Joseph will watch over us. Let us ask them to appeal to Our Lord. May the overflowing mercy and graces from His Sacred Heart pour forth and may He have mercy on us.
Fr. Joe Geleney
